Podenzana

The town of Podenzana Lunigiana rises in the low to the right of the Magra river. The castle was given to the ninth century abbey of Aulla, and the country was governed by the Malaspina family of Aulla. Through the Treaty of Vienna in 1815, was sold to Podenzana Este, turning it into capital community in the province of Lunigiana. One of the important religious buildings in the valley is the Shrine of Our Lady of Gaggio. Here tradition tells of the Virgin appeared on a chestnut, still kept in the back of the altar.
